French fry pancakes

My sister is getting married this weekend.  So we flew out across the country and are spending some quality time here in Connecticut with the famdamily.

On all previous plane rides Violet has always been a good flier.  She continued the trend on this trip.  Here, Violet entertains herself making pancakes.  Pretzel, ketchup, french fry, cheeseburger pancakes.  Yummy!
After her culinary adventures she is sleepy and so curls up and takes a nap.  I assure you she is under there somewhere.

On the second leg of the journey, my ticket got upgraded to first class so I gave it to Joanna.  Violet and I slummed it in the back foraging for dropped pretzels and stale Raisinettes while Joanna was knocking back the vodka-cranberries for 2 hours.  Violet and I played, and sang, and colored and looked out the window and then, 5 minutes before we landed Violet fell asleep.  She woke up halfway down the jetbridge and was not happy about the rude awakening.

Of course we were welcomed to New England by a series of tornadoes.  Much to Joanna's surprise, we went out to dinner between storms.  What can I say, we were hungry and it's been way too long since I've had a decent calzone.  Sorry, Callaway's, you do quite well by Utah benchmarks but you don't hold a candle to a small-town Massachusetts restaurant owned by (naturalized?) immigrants who resentfully speak English if only to take your money in exchange for a damn fine calzone and plate of spanikopita.  Bringing the night to an exciting conclusion, Violet abruptly woke herself up at midnight by falling out of bed and giving herself a bloody nose.

So that was Wednesday.  It was a long day... up at 4:45 AM MDT and landed at BDL at 3:45 PM EDT and asleep by 1:00 AM.

Today was a day to relax and letting Violet decompress from the plane ride.  Apparently in need of more recovery, Joanna and Violet took a nap.

Part of decompression involved a trip to the playground at Prudence Crandall Elementary School.  PC is where Kate, Jennifer and myself received our formative training in such things as kickball, bad handwriting skills, and rudimentary mathematics.   Sometime in the recent past, the shortsighted school district has torn down the deathtrap steel and concrete playground equipment and replaced it with a ill-conceived plastic climbing castle.  How are kids supposed to learn about consequences with all of these new-fangled safety features?  Poppycock!

Nonetheless, we all managed to have a good time...
